Seatbelts

I don't understand it. Why is it that sometimes the backseat of taxis don't offer the possibility to buckle up? Sometimes the seatbelt is just inaccessible. It's hidden away behind the seat, impossible to get a hold of. Other times the seatbelt is there but it doesn't fit into the buckle.

Is this a deliberate choice by taxi drivers?

No, I don't want my passengers to buckle up!

No, I don't care about their safety.

No, if they decide to take my taxi, they'll have to take this extra risk!

Aren't taxi drivers supposed to be the ones that should be deeply concerned with passenger safety? I always believed it's their responsibility.

Is it a design flaw? Such as the backseat designers just didn't properly think this through?

Whatever it is, it's annoying and dangerous. According to the Annual statistical report on road safety in the EU, around 20K people were killed in road accidents in 2023.

How many had to die because their seatbelt didn't work?
